The Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences Colloquium Series at Pittsburg State University presents "Putting the Interactivity Back" by Dr. James F. McBain, Jr., Associate Professor of Philosophy.

The situations and environments we find ourselves in these days can pose problems for traditional accounts of knowledge.  Here a new(ish) model is proposed to account for both the situations we find ourselves in the digital age as well as the everyday messy one. But we don't need a new notion.  We need to turn back to a conception of interactivity, but perhaps not the one usually thought of.  The proposal here is that interactivity is a matter of information flow (a la information theory) between signal senders and signal receivers.  The upshot of this analysis is that we cannot only explain why one knows, but also diagnose error when it occurs - from interfaces to interviewing, morality to medicine, science to snacks.

Join us on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. in Russ Hall room 405.

The community, students, faculty, staff, and alumni are invited!

Sponsored by the Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences, Dr. Barbara Bonnekessen, Chair.
